This
chapter presents accompaniment examples for ten musical styles applying some of the chords
and accompaniment patterns from Guitar Chords and Accompaniment along
with others introduced in this book. The ten styles are: blues shuffle,
rockabily, boogie, rock ballad, acoustic rock, folk, waltz, country, jazz and classical.
ROCKABILY
The
early rock and roll style of the 50s and early 60s is sometimes called rockabily.
Some of the guitar players known for this style are Chuck Berry, Scotty Moore (Elvis
guitarist), Steve Cropper, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, etc. The rhythm patterns used here
are variations of some of the strumming patterns from Chapter 2 of
the first book. If you have trouble playing it as shown, first try just clapping
the rhythm out while counting ONE-&-TWO-&-THREE-&-FOUR-&, etc., making
sure you know exactly where each attack occurs and for how long. Play slowly at first with
a metronome, gradually increasing tempo.
